Monika Kurath has been a senior researcher and group leader at the Centre for Research on Architecture, Society & the Built Environment (ETH CASE), Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, from 2010-2017. After her master at the ETH Zurich and her PhD at the University of St.Gallen, she was a candidate at the graduate school Collegium Helveticum ETH Zurich, a research associate at the Office for History of Science and Technology at the UC Berkeley, a post doctoral researcher at the Program for Science Studies at the University of Basel and a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy Schools Program on Science, Technology & Society. Since 2016, she is visiting professor at the University of Vienna ‘s Department of Science and Technology Studies.
After more classic science and technology studies research on societal aspects of emerging technologies, like biotechnology and nanotechnology, her current research focuses the field of urban studies and sociology of architecture. Ongoing projects analyse zone based urban planning in the five Western cities Amsterdam, Lisbon, Vancouver, Vienna and Zurich as well as design research in higher education of architects in Australia, Germany, Scandinavia, the UK and the US.
