This research topic focuses on the qualitative development and qualitative evaluation of the built environment, in particular in housing and urban planning. We examine aspects of the housing, living and working forms of various different user groups, taking into account the wider background of social and demographic challenges and the search for sustainable solutions.
Our research concentrates on the complex interaction between the participants who largely determine the planning, building and use of housing stock, as well as its eventual modernization and decommissioning. In addition to neighbourhood- and urban-renewal processes, key emphasis is placed on the demographically determined and shifting demands on the housing market.
Our research is primarily guided by an applied, empirical approach, whereby we utilise selected approaches and corresponding methodological procedures from the social sciences in accordance with the formulated question.
