Projects

ETH CASE conducts research on a local and global level into the fundamentals, strategies and practical solutions to the most pressing questions of comprehensively sustainable management of built space. The research focuses on the interrelationship between people, society and the built environment in housing.

Our approach is trans- and interdisciplinary and combines methods and knowledge from architecture, social and cultural sciences. The development of new approaches and instruments for the analysis and design of the built and lived environment with the involvement of the actors involved is one of our tools of the trade. Our projects analyse socio-spatial and spatial constellations as results of decisions and processes of different actors and develop strategies for their improvement or change.

A large part of our research takes place at the interface between research and practice. Many of the projects at ETH CASE have an international perspective.

Our team consists of experts from the social and cultural sciences, architecture and spatial research. The application of established methods as well as the development of new approaches and instruments for the analysis and design of built and lived space are part of our tools of the trade.

The cooperation partners and clients of our research are public institutions such as the federal government (BWO, BSV, ARE, BFE, BFK), cities and municipalities, civil society organisations (including UN-Habitat), as well as housing cooperatives, associations, NGOs and foundations, and actors from the private sector. Our research projects are funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF, the EU Commission, Innosuisse (formerly Swiss Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI), foundations and economic partners.

The global challenges for future living shape our research priorities at ETH Wohnforum - ETH CASE:
